Before you touch any settings, work through these ten steps in order. Each one builds on the last, from choosing your purpose right through to getting into a sustainable posting rhythm. Tick the box on each step as you finish it.
Your Skool is set up.
All ten steps complete. Time to invite your first members and get posting.
Choose your purpose
Before you touch any settings, get crystal clear on why your community exists.
Ask yourself:
- Who is this for?
- What do they want the most?
- What transformation will they get?
Give your community a clear name
Don’t overthink it. Keep it clear, benefit-driven, or niche-specific. Your name should instantly tell people:
- What the community is about
- Who it’s for
- Why it matters
Keep it simple and easy to say, and ideally use keywords that people will search for so you can be more easily found.
Your member profile and branding
Add a clear profile photo, avatar or logo to your profile. Add a clear bio and any relevant links (pro version of the plan only).
Use consistent colours, tone and visuals across your:
- Cover image
- Classroom thumbnails
- Resources
- Welcome post
Clean branding = instant professionalism.
Set up your spaces
Skool spaces are where everything lives, from your classroom to your calendar and your about page.
- Classroom: for your courses and resources
- Calendar: for live sessions and webinars
- About page: essentially your sales page for Skool
- Community: where members connect
Your community space is the heartbeat, keep it warm and alive with regular discussion topics that encourage engagement.
Create a killer welcome post
This is the first introduction to you (after the About page) that your members will see, so make it warm, clear and engaging.
Include:
- Who you are
- What the community is about
- What members should do first
- A call to introduce themselves
Build an onboarding path
Give new members a clear, step-by-step start. It can be as simple as:
- Watch the welcome video
- View the classroom
- Introduce yourself
- Complete a challenge
It shouldn’t be too overwhelming. Clarity = Confidence. Confidence = Higher engagement + retention.
A quick win piece of content
Having 50 courses can feel overwhelming. Set up a quick win piece of content where members can complete something quickly for momentum.
Consider one thing that can get them results fast:
- How to create 7 days of content using AI
- How to create a lead magnet in 30 minutes
- Beginner Canva toolkit
A quick win builds momentum and they are more likely to stay.
Gamify your content
Skool’s levels + points system is magic. Use it to reward participation and encourage progress.
Examples:
- Level 1: starter guide
- Level 2: AI tutorial
- Level 3: Canva templates
- Level 4: mini course
You don’t need everything on Day 1. Build as you grow and ask your members what they want, then give it to them!
Invite your first 10 members
Start small and intimate. Aim for your first 10 members who are excited to be early adopters.
Share your community link:
- On your socials
- In your stories
- To your existing audience
- In your email list
- At the end of videos
Get into a posting rhythm
You don’t need to live inside your community, just stay consistent. Here is an easy weekly plan:
- Monday: onboarding and motivation or challenge post
- Wednesday: tutorial, tip, or behind the scenes
- Friday: question or discussion prompt
- Weekly: one new resource or update
Keep it simple, sustainable, and human.
A few things worth knowing.
Notes from experience
- Your first 10 members matter more than your first 100. Focus on quality, engaged early adopters before you focus on scale.
- Don’t build everything on Day 1. Start with your quick win and onboarding path, then add levels and content as your community grows and tells you what it wants.
- Consistency beats intensity. A simple, sustainable weekly posting rhythm will always outperform sporadic bursts of high effort.
- Branding is a trust signal. Clean, consistent visuals across your cover image, thumbnails, and welcome post tell new members this is a professional, worthwhile place to be.
